Overview

Feng shui (pronounced fung shway) examines how the arrangement of your environment and the orientation and placement of things in it affect the energy flow in your environment and therefore your personal energy flow. Your personal energy flow affects how you think and act, how well you perform, and your level of success. It is based on the assumption that your surroundings affect your physical and mental health, your relationships, and your success. Originating from China, feng shui is thousands of years old.

By using feng shui techniques, you can influence the energies around you to achieve life improvements. This helps you to achieve harmony with your surroundings.

The term feng shui is composed of two Chinese words: feng (wind) and shui (water). Wind and water are the two natural elements that flow, move, and circulate everywhere. They are also the most basic elements required for human survival. Their combination determines the climate, which in turn determines our food supply and affects our lifestyle, health, energy, and mood.

The principle behind feng shui is that all objects (living and inanimate) contain qi (or chi). Qi is a form of energy that is the constantly moving and changing. The goal of feng shui is to keep qi flowing gently through your environment rather than running straight through it. If it becomes stuck or blocked, qi can have a negative effect on your environment.

A variety of tools can be used in feng shui including:

  • Colour
  • Sound
  • Lighting
  • Displaying art
  • Plants and flowers
  • Water features
  • Wind sensitive objects such as wind chimes
  • Mirrors and crystals

Feng shui views the world holistically. All things and creatures are part of a natural order in an environment that is alive and ever changing. Each thing has an energetic value. This same energy flows through you – it’s your essence, what makes you alive and unique

FAQs

Study method describes the format in which the course will be delivered. At Reed Courses, courses are delivered in a number of ways, including online courses, where the course content can be accessed online remotely, and classroom courses, where courses are delivered in person at a classroom venue.

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development. If you work in certain professions or for certain companies, your employer may require you to complete a number of CPD hours or points, per year. You can find a range of CPD courses on Reed Courses, many of which can be completed online.

A regulated qualification is delivered by a learning institution which is regulated by a government body. In England, the government body which regulates courses is Ofqual. Ofqual regulated qualifications sit on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), which can help students understand how different qualifications in different fields compare to each other. The framework also helps students to understand what qualifications they need to progress towards a higher learning goal, such as a university degree or equivalent higher education award.

An endorsed course is a skills based course which has been checked over and approved by an independent awarding body. Endorsed courses are not regulated so do not result in a qualification - however, the student can usually purchase a certificate showing the awarding body's logo if they wish. Certain awarding bodies - such as Quality Licence Scheme and TQUK - have developed endorsement schemes as a way to help students select the best skills based courses for them.
